Connor Young, President
I am a second year student majoring in Near Eastern and Classical Archaeology. I am also working towards a minor in Spanish. This year, I will be the inaugural President of the Laurier Arts Scholars and Chair of the Executive Committee. I am extremely motivated to improve and expand the group this year in order to encourage excellence in the arts at Wilfrid Laurier University. I hope to use the skills I have developed throughout high school and my first year at WLU to effectively run this learning community of high-acheiving students. I am certain that, with the help of the vice-presidents, committees, and through the input of the members, this group will provide many advantages to WLU students in the arts.
Kathy Ziomek, Vice-President: Operations
I am a first year student majoring in Global Studies. I am hoping to minor in Economics and eventually utilize the skills and knowledge I will gain at university to travel the world, and get involved with international affairs. I am very excited to serve as the Vice President: Operations of the Laurier Arts Scholars and Chair of the Programs and Events Committee. I have experience coordinating activities as a teacher-coach for Mayfield Secondary School’s Mock Trial Team and I have contributed to the greater community through involvement in music programs, at local libraries, and in my high school’s Zonta Club. I look forward to working with all students in the Arts, and to promoting academic excellence in our Faculty.
Shannon Wackett, Vice-President: International and External Affairs
I am a first year student majoring in Global Studies. I am the Vice-President: International & External Affairs for the Laurier Arts Scholars and the Sustainability representative of King Street and Regina residence. In my spare time I play hockey and soccer, sing, dance, and horseback ride. I look forward to organizing programs and activities for the group and Faculty of Arts students and anticipate an amazing experience. I am excited to establish an environment for first years to come together with other arts students and discuss ideas to get involved. I look forward to working with everyone!
Trevor Thompson, Vice-President: Marketing and Finance
I am a first year student double majoring in Political Science and History as well as minoring in Economics. I hope to attend law school or join the Canadian Foreign Service and become an Ambassador after I graduate. I love sports and have played almost all of them over my lifetime, but my favorites are hockey, baseball and football. I know how to kayak, canoe, and sail and I have worked as a camp counselor during the summer teaching children boating skills. I am from London and took a victory lap in high school because my birthday is two days before Christmas. In the next year I plan on going skydiving for my first time. I am really excited to serve as the Vice-President: Marketing and Finance of the Laurier Arts Scholars and Chair of the Marketing and Finance Committee and I am eager to get to know all of you. I'm sure that we will have an awesome year.
