CAPSAC Terms of Reference
The Committee will consist of three full-time faculty members, ensuring representation from the IFG, CPPO, and Aboriginal fields of study; five MSW students (ensuring representation from 1st and 2nd year students in the 2-year full-time program, advanced standing students, part-time students, and students from the Aboriginal field of study); the Dean of the Faculty of Social Work, ex officio; the Coordinator of Practicum; the Associate Coordinator: Practicum; the FSW Programs and Admissions Coordinator; two practicum instructors (1 IFG, 1 CPPO; whenever possible, one of the practicum instructors will also be a member of Divisional Council); two part-time (CAS) faculty (ideally, representing those who teach in the IFG and CPPO fields of study); a Member in good standing with the Ontario Association of Social Workers; and the Associate Dean: MSW Program.
The chairing of the committee will alternate between the Associate Dean: MSW Program and the Coordinator: Practicum.
The Academic Administrator (the Assistant to the Coordinator: Practicum (FSW) and Coordinator: Continuing Education/Field Specialist will be the alternate secretary).
All committee members, except for the chair, will have one vote. Decisions will be based on a simple majority vote. The chair will vote only to break a tie vote.
1. MSW Curriculum:
(a) To act in an advisory capacity to the Dean in regard to the interpretation of approved academic regulations and procedures for the MSW program.
(b) To make recommendations to the Divisional Council concerning any needed improvements in the academic regulations and procedures for the MSW program.
(c) To review and evaluate the objectives, structure and content of the full-time and part-time MSW curricula and to make recommendations to the Council for needed improvements.
(d) To receive, review and evaluate recommendations pertaining to the MSW curriculum from faculty members, students, field instructors, CAS, and persons in administrative positions.
(e) To advise the Continuing Education Coordinator about continuing education policies, procedures, and programs.
2. MSW Admissions Policy:
a. To review the admissions policies of the MSW program of the Faculty of Social Work and to make recommendations to the Divisional Council for any needed changes.
b. To review annually the MSW admissions procedures and to make recommendations to Divisional Council.
c. To serve in an advisory capacity to the Coordinator of Admissions on the interpretation of policy, or any other relevant matters for the MSW program.
3. Student Affairs:
(a) To serve as an Advisory Committee to the Dean as required when issues concerning MSW scholarships and awards arise for which the Dean wishes to seek advice.
(b) To deal with any collective MSW student issues that may arise.
4. MSW Practicum:
(a) To make recommendations to Divisional Council regarding existing MSW Practicum policies.
(b) To advise the Practicum Coordinator regarding MSW practicum procedures and programs.
(c) To receive, review and evaluate recommendations pertaining to the MSW practicum from faculty members, students, field instructors, CAS, and persons in administrative positions.
5. Annual Report: To submit an annual report on the work of the committee to Divisional Council.
Note: It is understood that in order to facilitate the work of this committee, frequent use will be made of task forces to review or formulate specific proposals or to study problems brought to the attention of the Committee. Non-members, including practicum instructors and students, will be eligible to serve on such task forces. When the work of the task force has been completed (or if the work cannot be completed) a report will be submitted to the Committee and the task force will dissolve automatically.
