Social Work Week luncheon

Social Work Week luncheon

On Monday March 7th the Faculty of Social Work, in partnership with the Mid-western Branch of the Ontario Association of Social Workers, held a luncheon to launch Social Work Week. Social Work Week is celebrated across Canada and highlights the contributions that social workers make in service to the public. The theme for this year was Social workers are there for you.

The attendees enjoyed a pizza lunch and an engaging presentation by Colin Plant, Ron Thomas and Michael Brown of The Working Centre. Ron, Colin and Michael talked about the Streets to Housing Program from the perspectives of a social worker and the clients that use the service.

Jennifer Thompson, a 2nd year MSW student, was presented with the Student Membership Award of the Ontario Association of Social Workers and Bharati Sethi accepted the 2011 Graduate Honour Award. Peter Dunn, Associate Professor, gave a moving tribute to Lynda Young, an alumna that passed away in February and presented Lynda’s family with a certificate honouring her.

The Faculty of Social Work wishes to thank the Mid-Western Branch of the Ontario Association of Social Workers for co-sponsoring this event.
