Forest Harvesting, Sweden

Integrative Forest Planning Regulation

This collaborative project links researchers in Finland, Sweden, Canada and the US interested in the role of environmental impact assessment (EIA) and integrated management approaches in improving and advancing forest resource management.  There is an emphasis on the forest of northern countries and in the case of the Swedish and Finnish forests a particular interest in the tenure, regulation and management dynamics that pose unique challenges for boreal regions.  Kevin Hanna, at Wilfrid Laurier University is the Canadian partner. Dr Hanna brings experience in EIA research, forest policy analysis, and integrated resource management.
Funding in place: Finnish Academy, Swedish EIA Centre.  Canadian contribution to be determined. Projected budget € 700K over 3 years.
Collaborating institutions: Joensuu University, University of Jyväskylä , Central Finland Regional Environment Centre; in partnership with Wilfrid Laurier University (Canada), Swedish EIA Centre (at the Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet, Uppsala ) and Southern Oregon University (USA).
