PhD Admissions Requirements

Admission into the PhD program is judged primarily on the applicant’s ability to undertake research successfully and his/her prospects for completion of the program. Therefore, students are admitted to the program with a course of study designed, when appropriate, to supplement previous education, experience and training. For example, the Accounting program requires a Master's Degree with a minimum B+ average in a related discipline OR a Bachelor's Degree with at least an A- average plus a professional designation in accounting (CA, CMA, CGA). Students considered for the Financial Economics program may be admitted with a Master's Degree in Finance, Economics or a related discipline. The Marketing program considers students with a Master's Degree in Business or Psychology. The program in Operations & Supply Chain Management considers admitting students with a Master's Degree in Business, Engineering or Mathematics. Similarly, the program in Organizational Behaviour & Human Resource Management considers students with a Masters Degree in Business, Social Work or Psychology. Advanced standing in courses specific to the candidate’s program of study is considered.

The normal requirement for admission to the doctoral program in management is a Masters Degree (or equivalent) in business or a related field with a minimum B+ average.

The Lazaridis School of Business & Economics requires that all applicants submit scores obtained on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). GMAT test scores (min. 85% percentile, generally a score of at least 650) are standard. When appropriate, equivalent Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) scores will be accepted (generally, a composite score of at least 305). Applicants whose language of instruction during the undergraduate degree was other than English must furnish evidence of proficiency in English prior to admission.  Normally, this evidence is an acceptable score on one of the following: TOEFL, IELTS, CAEL Assessment. For more information please refer to the English Proficiency Requirements.

Please note the supporting documents you must submit as part of your application to the PhD in Management program. Applications will only be reviewed once you have applied online and all supplementary materials have been uploaded.

As this is a competitive program with a limited number of spaces available, meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission into the program.
