For Students

The goals of Community Service-Learning are to provide service in the community while at the same time gaining practical experience to complement your academic learning.

Why do CSL?

You are placed with a variety of community organizations throughout Waterloo Region or Brantford and work in partnership with those organizations to address identified needs.

Taking a Community Service-Learning (CSL) course allows you to apply what you are learning in the classroom to real-life situations and gives you the opportunity to make a difference in the community. While helping organizations to address identified needs in the community, you are gaining valuable knowledge, skills and experience which can help you better understand the course material and also prepare for future career paths and/or graduate studies.

Involvement in CSL builds a strong foundation for life-long learning and meaningful community involvement.

I really enjoyed my CSL placement because it served as a practical application of the concepts we explored in community psychology. I have maintained communication with my placement location and am applying for a summer position there!
