Kelly Livingstone - Honours Thesis (completed April 2011) - MSc (completed Aug 13)

I completed a BSc Honours with a major in biology from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2011. Throughout my undergrad, I took courses in environmental toxicology and environmental risk assessment, both of which fostered my interest to complete an undergraduate thesis on metals in the aquatic environment. My project involved assessing the bioavailability and toxicity of Cu to the aquatic amphipod Hyalella azteca and how this can be altered by different sources of natural organic matter (NOM) collected from Canadian Shield waters.  This research project is aiding in the adjustment of current toxicity predictions models to be used for risk assessment and to help generate water quality guidelines for metals in aquatic environments. I am continuing my research in the McGeer lab as a MSc student (September 2011-13).
