Keegan Hicks - MSc (compeleted May 2009)

MSc. completed in May 2009: Using Chemical, Optical and Biological Methods to Characterize Cu Complexation by Different Natural Organic Matter Sources Collected from Canadian Shield Waters

May 2009 - Oct. 2009: MITHE-SN Intern with the European Nickel Association, Brussels.

Currently:  Private consultant to the Ni industry on hazard and risk assessment of metals.

I completed a BSc Honours with a major in toxicology from the University of Saskatchewan.  During my undergraduate degree I developed an interest for metals in aquatic environments.  I followed my interests to Wilfrid Laurier University where I completed my MSc in the McGeer lab.  My studies were on the bioavailability and toxicity of Cu to fresh water fish and how this may be altered by different sources of natural organic matter collected from Canadian Shield waters.  This research is helping to modify existing toxicity predictions models to be used for risk assessment and to help generate water quality guidelines for metals in aquatic environments.
