Faculty of Ed Hires Aboriginal Education Coordinator

Early in September, Spy Dťnommť-Welch, Ph.D., joined the Faculty of Education as the new Aboriginal Education Consultant. In this role, Spy will be working with faculty to develop strategies for incorporating Aboriginal pedagogy and content across the B.Ed. and Masterís programs. Spy has several research interests, including Indigenous epistemologies and methodologies, arts-informed research methods, and Indigenous issues in music and opera, theatre and visual culture. Spy is also a practicing artist who writes, composes and produces work in theatre, opera and video. He wrote, co-composed and co-produced the Dora-nominated opera, Giiwedin, which premiered in Toronto at Theatre Passe-Muraille in a Native Earth Performing Arts and An Indie(n) Rights Reserve co-production. He is now developing a new opera work with support from the TAC and OAC.

Spy is thrilled to be working with everyone in the Faculty of Education, and is excited to be part of envisioning creative and meaningful ways of incorporating Aboriginal/Indigenous content within and across the program that make teaching and learning a richer experience.
