Waterloo Lutheran Seminary Programs

Continuing Studies offers administrative support for a variety of courses, programs and services offered through the Waterloo Lutheran Seminary, a federated college of Wilfrid Laurier University.

Waterloo Lutheran Seminary provides for the scholarly study of the Christian faith in an interdenominational setting allowing for non-credit personal development, community outreach, spiritual care and counselling.

Dubrick Summer Institute for Ministry

The Dubrick Summer Institute will focus on leadership development, expanding on the material introduced in last summer's event. It will again be taught by Jerry Hogeveen, who has more than 30 years of global experience in leadership training. We have revamped the program as a registered, continuing education opportunity rather than as a graduate level course. This assures that participants are eligible to apply for ELCIC Continuing Education funding, meets the continuing education criteria of the CRA, and enables us to offer the program at much more reasonable cost.

Location:  Waterloo Lutheran Seminary, 75 University Ave. W., Waterloo, ON

Dates: An evening reception will be held on June 6. The seminars will run daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., June 7th-9th.

Instruction: The training will include approximately 8 hours of pre-class work in addition to the three days of seminars at the seminary.

Cost: $250.00 + HST

  1. First Call participants: congregations will be responsible for costs.
  2. Synodically nominated participants: The Eastern Synod will cover your registration costs

Deadline to register: Friday, May 16, 2016

Accommodations: Those needing accommodation are encouraged to check with Hotel Laurier for options.

Kanata Centre: Art Workshops for Personal Growth and Ministry

The arts give us a pathway to our heart and souls and connect us to the Divine Mystery. In these workshops, the intention is that participants will learn new skills that they will use in expression their spirituality. These skills could be used in a personal journal, in prayer time, in parish groups or corporate worship.

Kanata Centre: Vocal Techniques Course

The aim of this course is to aid the amateur singer in understanding the structure and function of the singing voice in order to further develop facility and appreciation of his/her instrument. Each session will include practical application of the developing concepts and will focus on both the artistic and technical aspects of singing repertoire. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and perform songs that are in line with the student's abilities.
