Kurtis (he doesn't wear the helmet in the lab)

Kurtis Baute

Growing up on a seed farm in rural Southern Ontario, it is perhaps no surprise that I see and respect plant biology the way that I do. Now, in my final undergraduate year as a biology student at Laurier, I am doing a thesis on the systematics of C. campestris and C. pentagona in Dr. Costea's lab. The taxonomic treatments of these species have had a complicated history and I hope to settle the confusion once and for all through a comprehensive morphometric analysis.

When I'm not in the lab, I can usually be found bouldering at the Laurier Climbing Wall, cycling about town, or in my kitchen laboratory making concoctions such as bread, soy milk, tempeh, and cider.
