Access requests and issues can be reported to the MyClassroom website, technical issues should be reported to the ICT HelpDesk for resolution.

Networking and Connections

Network: Eduroam

Login and password: Personal Novell credentials as with any other wireless network on campus.

Note: Please avoid using the unsecured 'laurierwifi' network. 'Eduroam' provides better speed and service, as well as enhanced security.

How do I connect my personal laptop?

Plug the laptop into the VGA connection cord running from each table and the instructor's console. Press the VGA input button on the table console.

Please note, VGA connections do not carry audio. Audio will still play through the deviceís speakers. Applications which require audio to play to the entire classroom should be run via HDMI connections, which are native to the provided laptops in the classroom, and can be plugged in to a personal laptop. Select the "HDMI" input on the console.

If your personal device is not projecting, try restarting it with the input cable plugged in. Otherwise, check your display settings in your Control Panel (Windows) or Preferences (OSX).

Projectors and Consoles

Each table has a number and a corresponding colour so instructors can more easily identify which projectors to switch to on the instructor console. Table numbers and colours are displayed on the desktop of each laptop in the room.

On the top edge on the touch screen console, choose either "Main Projector" or "Send to All Pods" and then select the table you would like to project or select "Podium" to display the instructor console.

To return student displays back to projecting each individual pod, ensure that "Send to All Pods" is selected and press the green "Clear Input" button at the bottom of the touchscreen.

How do I push my display content to all screens?

Select "Send to All Pods" at the top of the touchscreen and then press the table you would like to project to all pods or select "Podium" to project the instructor's podium.

How do I allow each table to project its own independent image?

Select "Send to All Pods" at the top of the touchscreen and then press the green "Clear Input" button at the bottom. Alternatively, Students can select an input at their table (HDMI1, HDMI2, VGA) and their projector will switch to that image.

What should I do if a student table projector isn't working?

  1. Ensure that the student table console is set to the HDMI input to display the provided classroom laptop.
  2. Check the connections on the student table laptop. There should be a power cable and HDMI connection. The VGA connection cannot be plugged in to the table laptop and will either be unused or connected to a studentís personal laptop.
  3. Restart the computer and the projector.

How do I adjust audio volume?

There are audio controls on the touchscreen display which control the room's main speakers. Use the volume up and down buttons to adjust. If volume is low, please check the computer's audio output volume by clicking on the small speaker image in the taskbar at the bottom right of the laptop screen. Volume works best when content is being pushed to all screens.

How do I play a DVD in the Active Learning Classroom?

The instructor's console computer can play DVDs. There is a DVD player in all of the student table laptops which is accessible by pressing the raised button under the right front edge of the computer.

Video Conferencing and Skype

This Active Learning Classroom has a video conference camera and microphones integrated into the design and they can be used to connect with guest lecturers, remote classrooms, and can be used to record presentations.

Video Conferencing:

From the laptop start menu, boot "Cisco Jabber". There is a flat silver Logitech remote control which adjusts the position and zoom of the camera. Please point the remote control directly at the camera. It is often advantageous to book an ITS technician to help with video conference set-up, and you can contact  in advance of your class or meeting.

Instructions for connecting to Jabber

Skype is installed on all Active Learning Classroom laptops and leverages each computer's microphone and camera. The instructor's console uses the laptop and integrated microphones which allows for the best quality and audio in the classroom.

Audio and Video Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing audio problems, please be aware of and check the following volume controls:

1. Adjust the volume on the right side of the touchscreen control pad.

2. Computer volume: There will be a volume icon in the lower right corner of the toolbar. Ensure that this is turned up

3. YouTube or DVD volume. Check the volume of the app that is running to see if the controls have been set too low or high.

To resolve video issues,

1. Ensure that the correct input is selected on the console (HDMI, VGA) and that the computer is turned on.

2. Try pushing content to all screens and then returning display control to each individual table. This typically resolves projector switching issues.

3. Turn the projector off and then on again.

4. Turn the power bar off under the affected table and turn it on again after 2 minutes.

All audio and video issues in Active Learning Classrooms should be reported to the ITS Helpdesk

Using the Document Camera

Document cameras are installed in all Active Learning Classrooms. To operate the document camera, press the "ON" button on the camera base. From the computer Start menu, choose "Image Mate Document Camera". The camera should now be on and can be physically adjusted and zoomed. Instructors can draw on an image by clicking and dragging their mouse around the screen. Screenshots are available in the top menu bar.

Furniture and other physical resource issues should be reported to the MyClassroom portal
