Best Practices


 On a weekly basis perform Steps 1 and 2.

1. Ensure that Desktop BlackBerry Software is on your personal productivity computer

  • To find out the device model number on the Blackberry Device go through, Options, Device, About Device Versions.
  • Record the model number that exists on the first line.
  • Follow through the steps to download the software from the BlackBerry site.

2. Backup BlackBerry on PC

  • Plug the BlackBerry device into the computer with the USB data cable that came with the device.
  • This should automatically start the Desktop BlackBerry Software or the client will have to double/click on the Desktop BlackBerry Software icon.
  • The Desktop BlackBerry Software might recognize that the BlackBerry device has not been backed up and will prompt to back up the device. If not, when the Desktop BlackBerry Software icon is started, click on the <Backup Now> icon.


  1. On the Home screen or in a folder, click the Options icon.
  2.  Click Security > Password.
  3. Click Set Password.
  4. Type a password.
  5. Press the Image of the Menu key key > Save.
  6. After you finish: To turn off your BlackBerry® device password, clear the Enable check box.
