To be admitted, a student must meet the general admission requirements of the University, and must have an honours degree in Mathematics or a closely related area that includes courses in advanced calculus, basic probability and statistics, linear algebra, and abstract algebra. A final year average of at least B+ is usually required, along with a cumulative average of at least B+ in all mathematics and statistics courses.

Students with strong Mathematics skills from other disciplines (for example, Physics, Biology, Engineering, Business) are encouraged to apply. Students who have a strong mathematical background but do not meet the formal admission requirements of our program are encouraged to contact the Graduate Co-ordinator for Mathematics concerning their eligibility.

Applicants complete their applications on-line and then send a printed copy and other required material to the Graduate Admissions Committee of the Department of Mathematics:

Applications are reviewed by the Graduate Program Committee, which considers all submitted materiel. Successful applicants receive an offer of admission from the Faculty of Graduate Studies that provides their entry date for admission and details of financial assistance.

Application Deadlines

You should apply by February 1st to ensure you receive funding. Applications will be considered after February 1 until our quota of funded students is filled. Applications for non-funded students will be accepted up until August.

English Proficiency requirements

Proficiency in English usage, both written and oral, is essential to pursue graduate studies at Laurier. Applicants whose language of instruction during the undergraduate degree was other than English must furnish evidence of proficiency in English, prior to admission.
