Residence Education Office to welcome Laurier community at open house

Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing

Jan 25/12

The university’s Residence Education Office will hold its first-ever open house Feb. 1 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the office’s new home in room 111 of Macdonald House (lower level) in the former Student Publications Office.

Visitors will have the opportunity to chat with staff, enjoy light refreshments and view displays explaining the office’s work and highlighting its achievements. All members of the Laurier community are welcome, including Student Affairs staff, faculty members interested in participating in the office’s co-curricular programs, and students.

“Our new space is right at the centre of the Waterloo campus. It’s a perfect representation of how much progress we’ve made in a rather short period of time,” said David Shorey, Laurier’s Associate Director of Residence and Learning. “We encourage members of the Laurier community to stop by our open house for a visit to learn about our residence programming, or to find out how they might be able get involved.”

The Residence Education Office oversees the university’s First Year Leadership Programs, its Residence Learning Communities, and campus partnerships on Laurier’s Waterloo campus, including various teaching and study-assistance programs supported by faculty and student services.

The office was created in June 2010 to address a growing need for support and resources dedicated to educational programs within the residence system as the university moved to intensify its integrated and engaged approach to learning. The office’s new, enlarged space will help accommodate its rapid growth.

“It’s a touch-point for our partners, whether we’re reaching out to them or they’re connecting with us,” Shorey said.
