Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing

Sep 29/11

WATERLOO — The Schlegel Centre for Entrepreneurship honoured outgoing Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EiR), Alan Quarry at a reception September 27, and welcomed in-coming EiR, David Ceolin.

The Schlegel Centre for Entrepreneurship is inspired by the vital role entrepreneurs play in the Canadian economy, and is driven by a desire to educate and create opportunities for students in the area of entrepreneurship.

Quarry, who was the EiR for two years, is the chairman of Quarry Integrated Communications. He began his first business in 1983 in the basement of his father’s family home. Today, his business has become a major force in the advertising industry.

“Alan has been invaluable to the Schlegel Centre for Entrepreneurship, particularly for our students,” said Steve Farlow, executive director of the centre.

The reception also welcomed incoming EiR David Ceolin, a 1989 Bachelor of Business Administration alumnus and CEO of Innovation Grade Ventures, who will be honoured as one of Laurier’s 100 alumni of achievement on October 1.

David captured the audience by sharing his “four Ps of entrepreneurship philosophy: people, progress, productivity and passion.” He urged today’s students to embrace the moment and be ready for the future.

Recognizing that many students at Wilfrid Laurier University want to start their own businesses, the Schlegel Centre for Entrepreneurship offers the EiR program to complement the classroom learning experience. For more information about the centre, please visit
