Wilfrid Laurier University’s 2011 United Way campaign, which ran from Oct. 13 to Oct. 28, raised $60,000 in employee donations from the university’s Waterloo, Brantford, Kitchener and Toronto locations.

“The result of this year’s campaign is indicative of Laurier’s commitment to supporting our local communities, and to bringing our focus on inspiring lives of leadership and purpose to life,” said Deb MacLatchy, vice-president: academic and provost and chair of Laurier’s United Way campaign. “My sincere thanks on behalf of the university to all who helped to make this campaign a success.”

A number of special events on both the Brantford and Waterloo campuses also supported the United Way campaign this year, and raised more than $2,300.

Brantford campus events included Days of Caring where volunteers spent their lunch hours helping at the local food bank, a campaign kick-off BBQ in the Research and Academic Centre, and Dress Denim Tuesdays.

On the Waterloo campus, events included a food collection drive to benefit the Waterloo Region Food Bank and an Iron Chef competition that saw Laurier President Max Blouw in a cook-off against Wilfrid Laurier University Student Union President Nick Gibson. Waterloo and Kitchener locations both participated in a Change-for-Change coin collection competition.
