Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing

Jun 20/13

Wilfrid Laurier University will conduct a brief test of its Emergency Notification System (ENS) on Wednesday, June 26 at 9 a.m.

This is just a test of the system. No action is required.

During the test, a brief message will be sent via the following:

  1. All university computers that have the ENS client installed. The message will lock computer screens for approximately two minutes, after which the screens will return to normal.

  2. A text message to all mobile phones whose numbers have been registered with Laurierís ENS system.

  3. An email to all faculty and staff.

  4. Most of the university-operated television monitors in various public locations across the university.

If you experience a problem, please contact the Employee Service Desk. For the Brantford campus, call ext. 5725. For the Waterloo campus, the Faculty of Social Work in Kitchener and the Toronto office, call ext. 4357.

Register your mobile phone

The new Emergency Notification System expands the universityís ability to alert the Laurier community in the event of a significant on-campus safety threat.

One of the key features is a text-messaging service that allows individuals to receive an emergency text on their mobile phone in the event of a significant danger on a Laurier campus, such as a gunman or an equally urgent and dangerous situation.

To register your cellphone or mobile number, you must have a valid LORIS ID and PIN. Log in to LORIS at and follow the instructions that appear. You will only receive a text message in the event of a significant on-campus emergency and for periodic tests.
