Laurier names recipient of Betty & Peter Sims Professorship in Entrepreneurship

Nicole Coviello, a professor of marketing at the Laurier School of Business & Economics and an internationally recognized expert in the fields of marketing and international entrepreneurship, has been named recipient of the Betty & Peter Sims Professorship in Entrepreneurship.
“We are very pleased to honour Dr. Coviello with the Betty & Peter Sims Professorship in Entrepreneurship,” said Peter Carayannopolos, associate dean of business: faculty development and research. “The professorship was created to recruit or retain a senior faculty member who is a recognized leader in entrepreneurship teaching and research. Nicole is a fitting candidate.”
Coviello’s research has been published in top marketing, international business and entrepreneurship journals, including, among others: Journal of Marketing, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of International Marketing, International Business Review, and Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice. She has won numerous research and teaching awards and in 2008, received the 'Best Reviewer' award for the Journal of International Business Studies.
Coviello, who joined Laurier in 2008, recently held a two-year visiting appointment as the Nissis International Visiting Professor at Hanken in Finland. This year, she was an Erskine Visiting Fellow at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. In 2010, she received an Honorary Doctorate from the Turku School of Economics in Finland for her work in international entrepreneurship.
Her current research focuses on the role of customers in creating major innovation, entrepreneurial marketing capabilities, and the nature of network processes in new venture growth and internationalization. She is a collaborator on a $1.95M SSHRC Strategic Knowledge Cluster grant focus on developing and supporting the global network of International Entrepreneurship scholars. Coviello is the field editor (International Entrepreneurship) for the Journal of Business Venturing and is a Visiting Professor and Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow (2007-2012).
Coviello received her PhD in Marketing and International Business from the University of Auckland in 1994. She also holds an M.Sc. (Technology Management) and B.Comm. (Marketing) from the University of Saskatchewan. Coviello began her research career at the University of Waikato (New Zealand) and has since held positions at the University of Calgary and the University of Auckland.
