Dr. William Banks, Associate Professor (Accounting) and former Associate Dean of Business in the Laurier School of Business & Economics, has been named Acting Dean of SBE, effective Feb. 1, 2011, a position he will hold until a permanent Dean is appointed.

Ginny Dybenko, who recently announced she was stepping down from her position as SBE Dean to accept another opportunity at Wilfrid Laurier University, will assume the role of Executive – Strategic Initiatives, also effective Feb. 1.

"I am very pleased that Dr. Banks has agreed to take on the position of Acting Dean,” said Vice-President: Academic, Deborah MacLatchy. “Bill has held many leadership positions in SBE, including most recently Associate Dean of Business. He brings to the role a strong commitment to the School and its students and I look forward to working with him."

In addition to the Associate Dean role, Banks has served as BBA Director, External Programs Director and Area Coordinator for the Accounting Area. He has been a member of the Governing Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and Vice-President of the WLU Faculty Association. His current research focus relates to financial and non-financial accountability reporting by not-for-profit institutions.

Dybenko’s new responsibilities will span fundraising, advocacy and special projects related to broad university interests. Reporting to the President, the position is situated within the Development & Alumni Relations office, with day-to-day accountability to the Vice-President: Development & Alumni Relations, Rob Donelson.

“I’m delighted that Ginny has accepted this new role within the university,” said Max Blouw, President & Vice-Chancellor. “As we prepare for our next major fundraising campaign and turn the corner on our second century, there are a number of key fundraising, advocacy and other initiatives that will benefit greatly from her unique talents, abilities and relationships.”

The search for a new Dean for the School of Business & Economics will begin in the spring.
