Laurier mourns the passing of former dean and vice-president Andrew Berczi

Jun 16/14

The Wilfrid Laurier University community mourns the passing of Professor Emeritus Andrew Berczi, a former dean and vice-president who passed away June 14 in his 80th year.

Berczi joined Laurier in 1978 as a professor of business administration after serving as dean of Concordia University’s Faculty of Commerce and Administration. In 1979 he was appointed dean of Laurier’s Faculty of Graduate Studies and director of research, a position he held for eight years. In 1987 he became vice-president: planning, finance and information services, a position he held for two terms. He retired from Laurier in 2000.

Berczi is survived by his wife of 55 years, Susan; his sons Tom (BBA ’88, MBA ’93) and Peter (MBA ’92); their spouses; and three grandchildren.

In keeping with his wishes, private services have taken place. As expressions of condolence, memorial donations can be made to the St. Mary's Hospital Foundation or the Alzheimer Society.
