Laurier Joins ResearchImpact Network

University continues tradition of community engagement

Jun 10/13

WATERLOO – Wilfrid Laurier University is one of four new university members of ResearchImpact following a national call for new members. Along with the Université de Montréal, Carleton University, and Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Laurier’s membership brings the total number of universities in the Canadian network to 10.

Shawna Reibling, Laurier’s knowledge mobilization officer, will be representing ResearchImpact at the Community-University Expo 2013, June 12-15, in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Laurier hosted the previous Community-University Expo in 2011 with over 800 attendees.

The ResearchImpact network acts as a community of practice, sharing tools and building capacity for institutional knowledge mobilization services. By supporting research engagement and dissemination, knowledge mobilization helps to maximize the economic, social and environmental impacts of university research and learning.

“Knowledge mobilization is a critical element in the research process. Knowledge mobilization forges critical connections between research and society. We have successfully encouraged faculty for many years to maximize the impact of their research through appropriate community involvement and look forward to working with ResearchImpact to increase this impact,” said Abby Goodrum, vice-president research, Wilfrid Laurier University.
