Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing

Feb 19/13

Laurier’s Aboriginal Student Services in Waterloo wants to inspire Aboriginal youth to experience life at university with ASPIRE Days – interactive, engaging and educational events held the last Saturday of every month from February to June.

First Nations (status, non-status) Métis, and Inuit youth aged 13-16 are invited to visit the Waterloo campus from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to take part in a variety of activities, including:

  • A science lab tour
  • Hand drumming
  • Sacred medicine teachings
  • Outdoor sports activities
  • Mini lectures with Laurier professors

“ASPIRE Days are meant to connect with local Kitchener-Waterloo Aboriginal youth to university life by creating a place to join together and find community,” says Kandice Baptiste, Aboriginal students recruitment and retention officer.

“The activities are meant to open their minds to future possibilities, and help youth find interests while engaging with the mind, body, and spirit. It will allow them to get comfortable on campus, and learn about potential academic or career opportunities while having fun."

The registration deadline is the Thursday before each event, and registration can be done on a monthly basis. Lunch is provided at no cost to participants.

For more details and to register, contact Kandice Baptiste by email at, by phone at 519-884-0710 ext. 4312, or by visiting:
