Laurier wins four awards — including gold — in international advertising competition

Feb 26/10

Wilfrid Laurier University has earned a gold, a bronze and two merit awards in the 25th Annual Educational Advertising Awards.

Laurier was awarded a gold in the Magazine Advertising category for our “Be Inspired” ad, which ran in the Globe and Mail’s 2009 University Report and the Canadian University Guide. Laurier also won a bronze award in the Internal Publication category for our InsideLaurier newspaper, and we received two merit awards — one in the Student Viewbook category for our Waterloo and Brantford viewbooks, and one in the Brochure category for our recruitment tabloid publications.

“These awards reflect the skill and creativity of Laurier’s design, communications, student recruitment and admissions staff,” said Jacqui Tam, director of Public Affairs and Publications. “We know this university produces excellent design and editorial work, but it is gratifying to see how well we measure up against some of the biggest schools in North America and abroad.”

Sponsored by the U.S.-based Higher Education Marketing Report, the Educational Advertising Awards program is one of the largest educational advertising awards competitions in the world. This year, more than 2,000 entries were received from more than 1,000 schools from the U.S. and several other countries, including Canada, Australia and India.

Other institutions recognized with awards this year include Yale University, Stanford University, Purdue University, MIT Sloan School of Management and Johns Hopkins University.

Judges for the Educational Advertising Awards include a national panel of higher education marketers, advertising creative directors, marketing and advertising professionals and the editorial board of Higher Education Marketing Report.

This is the first time Laurier has submitted material to this competition.
