Laurier launches an interactive, virtual experience for prospective students

Good news for high school students interested in becoming a part of the Wilfrid Laurier University community: a brand new virtual tour has been launched to give prospective students a taste of Laurier’s celebrated atmosphere.

“The virtual tour is a great way to get a feel for the Laurier spirit and it’s an invaluable tool for gathering information,” says Glennice Snyder, manager of student recruitment. “We still encourage students to come and visit campus in person, but virtual tours are a fun way to research universities ahead of time.”

There are multiple ways to explore Laurier online: you can design your own personal tour based on your interests, investigate areas on a map, or simply surf the A to Z list of tour stops.

To ensure the tour met the needs and expectations of students, students themselves had an input into the website’s creation, choosing their favourite interface design and influencing the Apple-like “cover flow” browsing menus.

Visitors can expect to see pictures, videos, descriptions and maps of Laurier’s Waterloo and Brantford campuses. There are also a few bonuses. Take the Laurier quiz and you could win a purple iPod shuffle, and if you explore the virtual campus long enough you might just come across some amusing video material from the cutting room floor.

"The launch of the virtual tour allows prospective students and their families from all across Canada and around the world to experience what a Laurier campus is like,” says Kevin Klein, public relations and recruitment officer for Brantford. “The tour provides visitors with an orientation to campus, information from current students and quick facts about the university – it’s a way to connect with Laurier and Laurier Brantford no matter where they are."
