Laurier menís hockey team takes leading role in Movember campaign

Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing

Nov 7/11

Itís Movember Ė and that means there will be a lot more moustaches on campus, as well as a number of activities aimed at supporting the prostate cancer awareness campaign.

Movember is held annually in November. On Nov. 1, male participants (Mo Bros) shave clean and then throughout the month groom and trim their facial hair into a first-rate moustache. Both men and women (Mo Sistas) support the campaign by helping to raise funds.

Laurier launched its Movember activities Oct. 31 with a shave-off in the concourse. Below is a list of upcoming events:

Saturday, Nov. 19, Movember Ball Hockey Tournament
Co-ed teams of 6-10 players can register on the Laurier Athletics website by going to and clicking on the 2011-2012 intramural tournaments link. Registration is open until Nov. 15. There is an $80 team registration fee, which includes lunch and tickets to the evening hockey game.

Saturday, Nov. 19, Hockey Tournament Ė Laurier vs. Western
Laurierís menís hockey team will face off against the University of Western Ontario at 7:30 p.m. at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex. Tickets are available at or at the door the night of the event. There will be several other fun activities and prizes to be won at the game.

Throughout the month of November, members of Laurierís menís hockey team will also be assisting minor hockey practices in exchange for a donation to Movember. They will visit local schools to raise awareness of menís health issues and seek individual fundraising pledges from the community.

If you would like to donate, please visit: Click on Team, and then search for Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks Men's Hockey. If you have any questions, please contact Lindsay Ryan at

In 2010, the Movember Canada campaign raised $22.3 million through 119,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas. For more information about Movember, visit:
