Laurier pension plan Town Halls: stay informed about your plan!
Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing
Your Laurier pension plan may be one of your most important sources of retirement income. These days, the challenges facing pension plans are frequently in the news and have been talked about at Laurier for the past few years. With so much focus on pension plans, it's important to educate yourself on this valuable part of your compensation package.
Jim Butler, vice-president finance and administration, invites members of the Laurier pension plan to attend one of three Town Hall meetings being held to share important information about the university pension plan. Presenter Allan Shapira, (senior actuary and principal, Aon Hewitt Associates), has an in-depth understanding of university pension plans and has worked closely with the Council of Ontario Universities and the provincial government to develop pension funding relief programs for public sector employers. He uses plain language (and a good sense of humour!) to explain how your pension works and why it is important for you to understand the challenges facing pension plans today.
Topics will include:
- Pension 101: understanding your Laurier pension plan
- Why so many public sector pension plans are facing funding challenges
- How the government is assisting universities and public sector employers with funding relief
- Qualifying for funding relief: universities must submit a Pension Sustainability Plan. What will this look like for Laurier?
Town Hall meetings will be held on the following dates:
Monday, March 21, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Senate and Board Chamber
Tuesday, March 22, 2011 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in SBE 1220
