Laurier student to be featured on MuchMusic
Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing
A MuchMusic video crew was on Laurier’s Waterloo campus this week to film student and up-and-coming rock musician Luke Bentham.
The third-year psychology student is lead singer and guitarist for the band The Dirty Nil.
MuchMusic plans to feature The Dirty Nil on the show Discovered (formerly disBand). The episode will likely air sometime in spring 2011, said producer Jessica Capobianco.
Bentham formed the band in 2006 with two high school friends, Dave Nardi and Kyle Fisher, all of whom hail from Dundas, Ontario.
The MuchMusic crew videotaped Bentham at a variety of locations around Laurier, including a second-year psychology class taught by professor Elizabeth Olds.
Bentham describes his band’s sound as “dirty garage.” Radio station 102.1 The Edge recently named The Dirty Nil as the “Indie Online Band To Watch” and had this to say about them:
“… with catchy melodies complemented by raw guitar and gritty, passionate vocals that sometimes recall Kurt Cobain and Daniel Johns, The Dirty Nil create well-crafted, updated garage grunge. While the ‘90s alternative influence is clear, their music is undeniably current, and has enough pop sensibility to be impossible to stop listening to once you start.”
