Annual Holiday Host program asks Laurier community to host international students this holiday season
Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing
International students at Laurier will have an opportunity to participate in holiday celebrations in Canada through the fourth annual Holiday Host program.
The program matches international students with Laurier faculty, staff, students, and alumni who are open to hosting two or more international students at a holiday meal or event at their homes or at a family gathering.
Laurier International is currently accepting applications for the weeks of December 23 through to January 2. Dates, times, and durations are negotiable between hosts and students.
“The Holiday Host has become a great tradition for the Laurier community,” said Peter Donahue, associate director of International Student Support. “International students look forward to learning about Canada and the significance of the holiday season from their gracious hosts.”
Previous student participants find the program very fulfilling.
"I'm so thankful that I had the experience to spend my holiday with Professor Brockett. I enjoyed myself a lot,” said Guanglong Pang, an international student attending Laurier from Shenyang, China. “I was immersed in the holiday atmosphere and experienced many holiday traditions.”
Interested hosts and students are matched on a rolling first-come, first-served basis. Laurier International will contact hosts to provide the names and contact information of their matches. Hosts can connect with their guests over phone or email to make arrangements. Laurier international will notify hosts by December 15, 2016.
