Laurier Food Services crowns Iron Chef Champion
Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing
It was a battle of presidential proportions Wednesday as Laurier Food Services hosted its annual Iron Chef competition in the kitchens of the Fresh Food Company on the Waterloo campus.
Vying for the title of Iron Chef Champion were contenders Max Blouw, president of Wilfrid Laurier University, and Michael Onabolu, president of the Wilfrid Laurier University Students’ Union.
Chef Blouw got off to a quick start, drawing a long line of luncheon customers for his bacon-filled macaroni-and-cheese dish. But Chef Onabolu soon caught up as word spread of his spicy surf ‘n’ turf specialty.
When the bellies were full and the ballots were counted, Onabolu’s surf ‘n’ turf emerged as the crowd favorite.
However, the real winner was the local United Way, which will receive a donation of $1,000 from Laurier Food Services.
