Retired Laurier history professor Terry Copp has been recognized for his outstanding work as a military historian by the 78th Fraser Highlanders York Garrison.

In receiving the Bear Hackle Award earlier this month, Copp joined luminaries such as Major-General Richard Rohmer, Dr. Desmond Morton, Dr. Jack Granatstein and Major-General Lewis MacKenzie in being recognized as a distinguished communicator of Canadian military history.

(The Bear Hackle Award name comes from the strip of bearskin used on the bonnets of the 78th Fraser Highlanders.)

Copp, who remains director of the Laurier Centre for Military Strategic and Disarmament Studies, is the author or co-author of 10 books and numerous articles on Canadian military history. He writes a regular column for Legion magazine on Canadian military history and was the researcher and on-camera historian for the television series, No Price Too High.

In recent years, Copp has led numerous European battlefield tours, introducing Canadian students and members of the public to sites where Canadians fought and died in the First and Second World Wars.
