CAS negotiations continue; WLUFA applies for conciliation

Negotiations Update

Feb 23/11

The Wilfrid Laurier University Faculty Association (WLUFA), the union representing Contract Academic Staff members, has asked the Ontario Ministry of Labour to appoint a conciliation officer in the current round of bargaining with the University.

The University is optimistic that the involvement of an experienced, independent third party will be helpful in resolving outstanding issues. It is not known when a conciliation officer will be appointed but the two sides are scheduled to meet again March 2 and additional meetings are planned throughout March.

The University and WLUFA bargaining teams have met 25 times since the start of negotiations on Sept. 14, 2010, according to a schedule developed to accommodate the teaching commitments of the WLUFA members, and the schedules of the University team.

The University remains committed to reaching an agreement that is fair and equitable for both parties, and in the best interests of the institution and its students.
