Tshepo Institute Annual General Meeting - Friday, October 5

The Tshepo Institute promotes global awareness and excellence in knowledge development on African issues with the aim of inspiring positive transformation.

Tshepo are hosting their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday, October 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Carnegie Building (73 George Street), room CB 100, and everyone is invited to attend.

The keynote address will be provided by Dr. Nana Araba Apt.

Dr. Apt. had her academic education in Canada at Queen’s University and University of Toronto. Currently she is the dean of academic affairs at Ashesi University College in Ghana. Before this position, she taught at the University of Ghana, Legon and headed two Departments: Sociology and Social Work. She was responsible for setting up a Centre for Social Policy Studies (CSPS) at the University of Ghana which she directed for six years before leaving the University. Her academic profession is backed by six years field and administrative experience in Ghana’s civil service in the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development. Prof Apt is a frequent consultant to many human development organizations including UN organizations and African Union’s Commission on Social Development. Her research and publication record bridges disciplinary applications in gerontology, family relations, child development and women’s education.

Dr. Apt is an international member of the advisory board of the Tshepo Institute for the Study of Contemporary Africa at Laurier Brantford. Her talk will be on children in difficult circumstances in Ghana, with some focus on child trafficking in West Africa.
