Windekind Buteau-Duitschaever (PhD Geography & Environmental Studies) awarded Stan Rowe Home Place Graduate Award - 2011

Windekind Buteau-Duitschaever is one of two recipients of the Stan Rowe Home Place Graduate Award in 2011 from the Canadian Council on Ecological Areas (CCEA).  Mr. Buteau-Duitschaever is a PhD student in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Laurier.

The Stan Rowe Home Place Memorial Fund was established in honour of Dr. John Stanley Rowe who was an outstanding Canadian thinker and teacher on ecology and ecological ethics.  The cash award of $1000 is awarded to a graduate student in the first two years of their program who is studying in Canada and engaged in research concerned with the establishment or management of protected areas which are representative of Canada’s terrestrial, aquatic, or marine ecological diversity.

Windekind’s area of research explores governance structures, institutions and collaboration for protected area development, with a focus on protected areas in Quebec.

“Receiving the Stan Rowe Home Place Graduate Award indicates external and independent recognition of the importance of exploring governance and institutional arrangements for managing protected area systems within the province of Québec. The award will further my research agenda by providing monetary assistance and more importantly, enabling my research through contacts made within the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks within Québec provincial government.”
