Laurier Professor Honoured with Northwest Territories Premier's Award for Excellent Collaboration

Jun 22/12

On June 13th, Dr. Brent Wolfe, Associate Professor Department of Geography and NSERC Northern Research Chair, was among a team of recipients for the Northwest Territories PREMIER'S COLLABORATION AWARD which recognizes the outstanding achievement of Government of the Northwest Territories employees in teams who work in partnership with other government and non-government employees to improve services to Northwest Territories' residents.

This is a top award from the NWT government. Dr. Wolfe was included in the award provided to the "Slave River and Delta Partnership, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Partners" (click here ). The partnership was cited for identifying "activities and opened the lines of communication for partnerships with communities concerning aquatic ecosystem health". The partnership is developing a Community-based Monitoring program for the Slave River and Slave River Delta. Roland Hall (Professor in Biology, U Waterloo) and Dr. Wolfe have been providing their scientific expertise to this initiative, specifically towards delivery of a State of the Knowledge Report and Vulnerability Assessment Report. They have co-led a research project to assess past changes in contaminant delivery by the Slave River to address concerns of residents of Fort Resolution about effects of upstream Alberta oil sands development on water quality.
