Faculty of Arts leads the way with new Academic Mentor-in-Residence program
The Faculty of Arts has expanded its Academic Advising program, bringing advising directly to students in residence.
Julie Pong, who has been an academic advisor in the Faculty of Arts Deanís Office for the last five years, is the facultyís first Academic Mentor. In this role, Julie will help Arts first-year students with academic -related questions Ė anything from queries about their major, progression requirements, how to change majors, how to add a minor or an option, or any other academic questions.
Julie will be rotating through various residence locations throughout the fall and winter terms. She has scheduled afternoon and early evening hours in Macdonald House, 200 King Street, Waterloo College Hall, University Place and Kingís Court. When not in residence, Julie will have drop-in hours in the Dean of Artsí office, DAWB 5-106.
The faculty has also hired a new Academic Advisor to work out of the Deanís office. Crystal Shadwell joined the Deanís Office in November. A Laurier graduate, Crystal worked as a Residence Life Co-ordinator at the University of Manitoba before returning to Laurier in 2011 as a Senior Recruiter with Recruitment and Admissions. We are extremely excited about this new stage in our advising initiatives in order to keep mentoring our students towards a successful academic outcome.
