Jorge Heine named a Global Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington

Laurier Political Science professor Jorge Heine has been named a Global Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, DC.

As a Wilson Center Global Fellow, Heine will be part of the Centerís global network of scholars and experts. He will be part of the Centerís Latin American Program. He will contribute to the Centerís research and scholarship through research, analysis, and publications.

Heine was previously a Public Policy Scholar with the Wilson Center in 2011. He has written extensively on politics, Latin America, Haiti, and globalization.

Heineís appointment runs from September 2013 through August 2015.

Heine holds the Chair in Global Governance at the Balsillie School of International Affairs, is Professor of Political Science at Laurier, and is a Distinguished Fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) in Waterloo, Ontario. From 2006 to 2009 he served as Vice-President of the International Political Science Association (IPSA). He was previously Ambassador of Chile to India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka (2003-2007). During his tenure the first presidential visit from Chile to India took place, a bilateral trade agreement was signed and Chilean exports grew tenfold, to US$ 2.2 billion.

Their work is the centerpiece of our activity and informs the nationís public policy debates with nonpartisan and relevant research and information.
