Laurier School of Business & Economics’ students took home second place at the first annual Family Enterprise Case Competition (FECC) in Burlington, Vermont this past weekend. The first of its kind and created by the University of Vermont, the FECC showcases both the best of current family business case writing and case analysis.

16 international universities attended the competition and were randomly divided into four divisions. Placed in the Lombardo division with teams from Mexico, Colombia, and the USA, Laurier’s team, consisting of business students Daniel Figueroa, Shannon Laing, Mallory McKewen, and Cedric Zhang, advanced to the final round with a division “Best Presenter” award for McKewen. Laurier completed the competition in second place with an additional “Overall Best Presenter” award for Figueroa.

“We are very proud of our students for their exceptional work in this new competition,” states John Young, lecturer and co-ordinator of undergraduate student affairs for Laurier’s School of Business & Economics. “The team’s presentation skills and outstanding confidence, placed Laurier at the top of the international competition stage.”
