Mar 3/09

Gillian McClosky,,

Rita Mascherin,

Sandy Campbell, CAS Instructor at the Faculty of Social Work, has been chosen to receive the 2009 CASW Distinguished Service Award for Ontario. This is the highest honour bestowed upon a social worker by the provincial and national professional association, and is awarded for her/his outstanding contribution to the profession and to the promotion of social justice and/or human rights.
CASW will announce this award in their April Bulletin and OASW will be presenting the award to Sandy at their AGM on June 12th.

The news of the award is being released this week, as it is National Social Work Week.  This year's theme is: "Social Workers: Making a Difference in the Lives of Older Adults and Their Families." Gillian McClosky, Associate Executive Director at the Ontario Association of Social Workers comments, "It is such a perfect fit for Sandy as a major focus for her has been on aging and gerontology in the areas of practice, education, research and policy.
"We would like to make particular note of the fact that Sandy has provided exemplary leadership and dedication to an OASW initiative of updating our popular 1992 publication, Elder Abuse: A Practical Handbook for Service Providers. This project is funded by the New Horizons for Seniors Progam, Human Resources and Skills Development Canada. This revised edition will reflect diversity and new legislation, and include up-to-date community resources for Ontario."
