Communication Studies CAS member, Peter Kuling receives Research Support Grant

Nov 22/11

Peter Kuling (CAS - Communication Studies) has received a 2012 Research Support Grant from the Laurier VP: Academic and the Dean of Arts to being work on a digital eBook edition of Philip Henslowe's theatrical diary. Henslowe was a theatre producer responsible for the production of Shakespeare plays as well as other drama during the Elizabethan era. His diary contains entries about plays performed, actors hired and paid, props purchased and used, as well as theatres booked and filled for performances. While an online PDF version of the handwritten diary does exist, Peter Kuling will be editing a new hypertext searchable version of the document for everyday use by scholars, librarians and theatre enthusiasts everywhere. This Laurier Research Support Grant will be used to complete a trial beta version of the first 8 pages of the diary and test out its interface and utility with readers and students alike. This project was developed out of his lecturing work as a CAS member teaching CS315: Print Communication and Culture.
