Fire in Wilfrid Laurier Universityís Expositor Place Residence, Brantford Campus

University provides temporary accommodation, and counselling to affected students

Dec 13/13| For Immediate Release

At shortly after 10 a.m. today, Friday, December 13, a fire alarm was activated in Expositor Place Residence on Laurierís Brantford Campus. The Fire Department and University Special Constables responded immediately.

The building was evacuated and the fire was extinguished by the building sprinkler system. One student has been taken to hospital. No other injuries have been reported.

Expositor Place Residence houses a maximum of 214 students in single rooms, however would not currently be at full capacity because of exam schedules. Accommodations are being secured for the displaced students. Transportation will also be organized.

Counselling Services are on scene and will be assisting students as needed. Students are being advised to contact their parents as soon as possible to let them know where they will be staying. Updates will be provided on the University web site as they become available.
