TSN host Michael Landsberg to speak about his battle with mental illness

Nov 14/12

The Laurier community is invited to attend a presentation by The Sports Network (TSN) host Michael Landsberg on Friday, November 16 at 10:30 a.m. in the Senate & Board Chamber on the Waterloo campus. The sports journalist, who hosts the network’s program Off the Record, will speak about his 15-year struggle with depression. Earlier this year, Landsberg shared his story in a documentary called Darkness and Hope: Depression, Sports and Me, which aired on national television.

Landsberg is the keynote speaker for the Association of Managers in Canadian College and University Student Centres regional conference, which is being hosted by the Wilfrid Laurier University Graduate Students’ Association (GSA). The theme of the conference is mental and organizational health.

“Michael has been an inspiration to countless Canadians. His willingness to shed light on the topic of depression, and dedication of his professional life to this end, perfectly demonstrates what it means to live a life of leadership and purpose,” said Ellen Ménage, general manager of the GSA.

Bringing Landsberg to Laurier is a coordinated effort by the GSA and the Students’ Union to create open discussions regarding mental health on campus. Both groups feel strongly that the mental health and wellness of students is a priority, essential to their personal and academic success. The event is being presented by Ceridian, which coordinates the Student LifeLine service, which supports Laurier students 24 hours per day, every day of the year.
