Business/Computer Science students win Management Information Systems competition

Mar 30/07

Samantha Kafato and Graham Edward won the Management Information Systems competition at the Inter-Collegiate Business Competition (ICBC) finals held at Queen’s University January 11-14, 2007.

The ICBC is an annual business case competition featuring teams from Canadian Universities as well as  international competitors. The preliminary round is a written case submission and six teams for each event are selected to compete in the finals held at Queen's University in January.  The final round (aside from the Debate) is also case based. Each team has 5.5 hours to review a new case, prepare and present their proposal to panel of distinguished judges from the event's  industry.

"Graham and I had great time collaborating as a team on this event, and we faced a bit of an additional challenge, working in different cities for the preliminaries.  We never once met, not even over the phone, and so we leveraged Google's Docs and Spreadsheets and MSN Messenger to get the job done."

Anil Mehta, Business/Computing & Computer Electronics, and David Tran, Business/Computer Science,   represented Laurier in Marketing and Labour Arbitration events respectively. Laurier's team was coached by Alan Marshall, a faculty member in the School of Business and Economics.
