Course Changes - Astronomy, Computer Science, Physics
A number of important course changes, explained below, have been made and all these changes will take effect September 1 2006.
AS105* Astronomy and Space Science
Science students are no longer excluded from taking AS105*.
CP466 Operating Systems
Operating Systems has been renumbered to CP386 and is now a prerequisite for CP372 Computer Networks.
CP213 Introduction to Object Oriented Programming
CP213 is now a prerequisite to CP264 Data Structures II.
PC135 Fundamentals of Photonics
Course has been renumbered to PC236 Fundamentals of Photonics and there has
been a change to the course description and the prerequisites/exclusions as
shown below. First year Photonics and Physics students must request a prerequisite override to take the course in first year. Contact the department administrative assistant via email at firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange for the override.
PC236 Fundamentals of Photonics 0.5
Introduction to photonics, the science and technology of generating and controlling light (photons). Topics include an overview of optics, light wave fundamentals, lasers, and applications of photonics in science and engineering, such as bioimaging and optical fiber communication.
Prerequisite: Registration status: Senior student, or permission of the department.
Exclusion: PC135; Honours Photonics students in year 3 or 4.
PC202°: Optics Laboratory
PC203°: Analog Electronics Laboratory
PC302°: Fibre Optics Laboratory
PC401°: Optical Networks Laboratory
PC202°, PC203°, PC302°, and PC401° have been deleted from the course list and from all program requirements. A lab component has been added to the respective course, and the contact hours for PC237, PC221, PC481, and PC474 will change to include a lab as follows:
- PC237 Optics - 3 lecture hours, 2 lab hours;
- PC221 Analog Electronics I - 3 lecture hours, 2 lab hours;
- PC481 Fibre Optics - 3 lecture hours, 2 lab hours;
- PC474 Optical Networking - 3 lecture hours, 1.5 lab hours.
