Computer Science Students are Finalists in the Built for BlackBerry Campus Competition

Twenty institutions across North
America were invited to participate in the Built for BlackBerry Campus Competition. Competitors included Carnegie Mellon, Notre Dame, and Stanford from the United States and Waterloo and Toronto from Canada.
Laurier computer science students, Chiao Chen, Jacky So, Stefan
Panait, Edward Huang and Mikael Malcolm participated in the 2013 Built
for BlackBerry Campus Competition. Judging criteria for the
competition were the use of BlackBerry specific tools, user
interface deign, functionality and creativity of the app. The Laurier team
advanced to the finals and were awarded an all expense paid trips
to present their app at Blackberry Jam America in Orlando on May 13-16.
Their application was judged by a BlackBerry leadership team member and
included non-BlackBerry employees such as venture capitalists,
incubators, bloggers and other influencers. Each member of the group was
also awarded a Z10 for attending the conference and a choice of a second
Z10 or Q10 for being a finalist at the competition.
Their app is called EZBudget which helps users to make informed financial decisions on a day to day basis.
