North American Studies Program
Special Note: Program Information for NASP Canadian Studies Stream Students
Course Substitions to Meet Program Requirements
In the 2010/11 academic year, Professors Tanguay and Spooner will be on sabbatical. As a result, the following courses will not be offered: NO210/PO201 and NO310/HI328.
We recognize that both of these courses are required core requirements for Canadian Studies stream students. We have made arrangements with the Departments of History and Global Studies to offer courses in 2010/11 that North American Studies will recognize as equivalents to NO210/PO201 and NO310/HI328 for the purposes of meeting program requirements.
In lieu of NO210/PO201, students will be able to take HI327 (Quebec in the Twentieth Century). It is offered in the fall term. Students should consult the History course schedule here.
In lieu of NO310/HI328, students will be able to take GS340w (Global Studies Special Topics Course). It is offered in the winter term. Students should consult the Global Studies course schedule here.
Of course, students who do not absolutely need to take one of these courses in 2010/11 (i.e. if you don't need to have the course to graduate by the end of the 2010/11 academic year), can always delay taking these courses until 2011/12 - when Professors Tanguay and Spooner will return. Beginning in 2011/12, PO201/NO210 will be renamed and renumbered to PO/NO315 (Politics and Society in Contemporary Quebec).
