Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)

May 28/13

The 2013/14 OSAP application is now available on line with the Ministry of Training for Colleges and Universities.  Students are able to access OSAP information and submit an application through the OSAP portal (

First time applicants note that you will be required to complete and submit a Master Student Financial Assistance Agreement (MSFAA) to your closest post office in order to have your funding electronically transferred to your account. Returning students who have already submitted an MSFAA will not need to resubmit this document, provided that their banking information from 2012/13 had not changed. The MSFAA is part of your regular OSAP application and should be submitted to a participating Canada Postal Outlet in your community.  Further details regarding the changes to OSAP (including a list of Canada Postal Outlets) is available on the Student Awards web site at

Also as part of this electronic fund transfer, students may choose not to have the Student Awards Office deduct any outstanding tuition fees from their available loan funding.  Please note that if you choose not to have your fees automatically sent to Laurier, you will be required to pay any outstanding fall and winter semester fees by the due date specified by the Business Office on your invoices.

If you are using OSAP to fund your university studies, it is in your best interest to allow the Student Awards Office to deduct your fees from your OSAP loans thereby avoiding interest and/or late charges.

Please note that students must apply for and submit all required supporting OSAP documentation to the Student Awards Office by August 1st, 2013 in order to be considered for reversal of interest and/or late charges.  Additionally, interest and late charges may only be reversed on fees where OSAP Loans will cover the entire cost of fees for the semester or the portion of fees being covered through OSAP loans (Ontario Tuition Grants and Ontario Access Grants are not eligible for this option).

Similar to past years, the Student Awards Office encourages students to submit their OSAP application and supporting documentation now in order to have their funding process by the start of the school year.  Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applications that are processed by the Student Awards Office, we can not guarantee that funding will be available to students in early September if you apply after mid July, 2013.

Students will need their OSAP Access Number (OAN) along with their password to log into the OSAP website.  Initially, students will sign in with their SIN/password combination to obtain their OAN - it is important that students write down their OAN for future access to the OSAP their application.  If you have lost or forgotten your OAN and password, please visit your closest post secondary institution (remember to bring your social insurance card and government photo ID) to obtain your number and to reset your password.
