Volunteer Peer Mentor Program
Accessible Learning is now accepting applications for September to be a volunteer peer mentor.
Purpose of the program: to provide an upper year student as a point of contact and a means of support for (primarily) first year students registered with Accessible Learning in order to help ease their transition into university and/or Accessible Learning.

Time Commitment: Minimum one year, approximately 8-10 hours per month

The Career Development Centre offers workshops to give you skills and knowledge to help your career path progress. By attending 5 workshops (Career Planning, Résumé Writing, Cover Letter Writing, Job Search and Networking Strategies, and Interview Success) at any point during your Laurier studies, you can earn a Career Development Certificate which you can add to your co-curricular record and your resume. Simply pick up your Career Development Certificate ticket at the first workshop you attend and get it signed by the workshop facilitator at the end of each workshop. Bring in your completed ticket to the Centre to receive your certificate!

Veritas is coming to Laurier Brantford!

Veritas Forums are "university events that engage students and faculty in discussions about life's hardest questions and the relevance of Jesus Christ to all of life. We seek to inspire the shapers of tomorrow's culture to connect their hardest questions with the person and story of Jesus Christ" (see A group of students, faculty and community leaders are forming a steering committee to bring a forum to Laurier Brantford in the 2012/13 academic year. There will be an open house at Freedom House (basement of the Market Square Mall) at 7:00 pm on March 1 at which we will provide an overview of the project and recruit interested students to serve in various leadership capacities (including finance, outreach, forum content, technical support and publicity).

Fun, Feisty, Feminism…“We’re Talking Feminism. -WTF?!
Ever wonder what feminism is? Join The F-Word at a special reception to launch the Find Your Feminism poster series, featuring students, staff, and faculty at Laurier Brantford explaining what feminism means to them. All campus and community members welcome!

After the reception, The F-Word hosts Dr. Susan Knabe, of the University of Western Ontario, with a public talk entitled “Fun, Feisty, Feminism…WTF?!” How do we find and forge feminist practice in the age of sound bites, social media, and sexualization? Dr. Knabe will speak about how we can draw on historical and contemporary examples of feminist interventions, from the early Suffragette pantomimes to the slut walk phenomenon, to imagine a different approach to feminist education and practice that speaks to feminists and non-feminists of all ages.

Funded Internships in Ghana for Summer 2013
Information Session for Applications (Due March 31, 2012)
The Human Rights & Human Diversity (HRHD) program will be awarding FOUR (4) FULLY-FUNDED 90-DAY INTERNSHIPS IN GHANA each summer in 2013, and 2014. Funding is provided by CIDA through the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada “Students for Development” program. (Note: This is a separate program from the Laurier Brantford International Opportunities Grants.)

While preference will be given to Honours students in the HRHD program, students in other Laurier Brantford Honours programs are encouraged to apply. Students must be in the third or higher year of their program to participate and must commit to returning in the fall semester after the internship to complete an academic course related to the internship (i.e., Fall 2013).

The deadline for applications for the Summer 2013 internships is March 31, 2012.

Third World Canada Campaign
Did you know that there are people living in third world conditions right here in Ontario? A small Aboriginal community known as K.I. is in desperate need of your assistance! Aboriginal Student Services is looking for donations of non-perishable items, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, diapers, feminine hygiene products, shampoo, toilet paper, etc to send up with the Ontario Provincial Police to this small community. Drop boxes are located in the Student Centre and the Aboriginal Student Centre (111 Darling St).

Social Justice Coalition Meetings
The Social Justice Coalition is having two more meetings this semester! If you have been interested in human rights and social justice this semester and have not had a chance to come to a meeting, now is your chance! We love to meet new people who are interested in human rights and social justice like us! We work with Project Empathy, Journalists for Human Rights, Amnesty International, WUSC, and Solidarity in Action and this meeting is a great place to hear information from all of these groups!
We will be meeting on Monday, Feb. 13th at 7:00pm in DAL209 (new building across from SCJ) and on Monday, March 5th at 7:00pm in DAL209. We hope to see you there!

WUSC Laurier Brantford is pleased to announce that we have a variety of Executive Positions opening up at the end of the semester! We are looking for new members to fill these positions! If you are interested in working with the Student Refugee Program on campus, becoming involved with our various campaigns, or just finding out more about WUSC, please contact We will also be meeting on Monday, Feb.27th at 8:30pm in SCJ308 and everyone is welcome to attend our meeting!

Positions Available:
Student Refugee Program Academic Advisor: Help the current and new Sponsor Students with academic tasks including selecting courses, scheduling, learning how to study and take notes effectively, and how to access academic assistance on campus.
Communications Officer: Assist WUSC LB by recording all events by taking pictures and submitting pictures and reports to WUSC Ottawa, communicating on the WUSC LB Facebook page, liaising with the WUSC Laurier Waterloo committee, and establishing or maintaining the WUSC LB website.
Fundraising Executive and Public Engagement Coordinator: assist the WUSC LB committee with planning fundraisers based on WUSC campaigns, seek publicity opportunities on campus and in the community, advertise for WUSC events and help spread the word about WUSC on campus!
Recruitment Officer: WUSC sponsors a new student every year and we need to ensure that our WUSC committee will always have amazing active members to support these students! Ensure that WUSC is represented at all campus club fairs, speak in lectures about WUSC, maintain the WUSC contact list, organize training events on campus (with assistance from other WUSC members), and organize local committee members to attend the two training conferences in Ottawa and the regional training in Toronto!
Social Events Coordinator: WUSC LB works together as a team and we love to celebrate our accomplishments! Organize monthly social events such as trips to the Gretzky Centre, tobogganing, and laser tag for the local committee members. All activities are designed to help the Sponsor Students become familiar with live in Canada and life at LB!
Treasurer: Maintain the WUSC bank account, communicate finances with Laurier International, and seek funding opportunities for events!
Head of Campaigns: Run an event on campus at least once a month that raises money or awareness for one of the WUSC campaigns.

Chiropractic Services
Appointments are offered weekly to assess, diagnose and treat disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Treatment approaches include interventions such as adjustments, soft tissue therapy, education, lifestyle advice, and exercise prescription. Custom Foot Orthotics
Fitting is now available on-site at Health Services through Thompson Health Services. LB insurance and most private insurance companies cover some or all of the cost of custom orthotics.
