Food Banks Canada executive director to speak at Laurier Toronto

TORONTO – Katharine Schmidt, Laurier alumna and executive director, Food Banks Canada, will present “Re-engineering a National Charitable Organization” September 21 at noon as part of a speaker series at the Laurier Toronto office, 130 King St. W.
Schmidt’s talk will cover how Food Banks Canada introduced a new governance model that drove a number of strategic changes including new leadership, staffing, membership structure, and an organizational rebrand. Schmidt will discuss how Food Banks Canada re-engineered their organization by integrating key business practices and how this resulted in positive impacts on its budget and programming across the country.
In her previous two roles, Schmidt served as senior director of public policy for the Food and Consumer Products of Canada (FCPC), and executive director for The Food Bank of Waterloo Region. She holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from the University of Guelph.
