TORONTO – Wilfrid Laurier University’s preparatory courses, University 101 and University 102, will be offered at Laurier's Toronto Office starting August 2011.

University 101 and University 102 are non-credit, certificate-based courses offered by the Department of Learning Services at Wilfrid Laurier University. University 101 recreates the university environment and provides essential academic skills instruction to prepare students for university-level studies. University 102 provides essential research and writing instruction to prepare students for university-level assignments.

The courses are available to high school students attending any university or planning to complete post-secondary education in any field. Preparatory courses are specifically designed to assist students with making the change from secondary to university education.

“Many incoming university students don’t have the appropriate academic skills for university-level studies,” said Michael Lisetto-Smith, manager of pre-university non-credit learning programs with Laurier Learning Services. “The most successful students are those who can make the transition from secondary school by further developing their academic skills. Both University 101 and 102 can assist students in making this transition and give them a strategic first-year advantage over their peers.”

University 101 and University 102 will continue to be offered at both the Waterloo and Brantford campuses every August. University 101 continues to also be offered online throughout the summer.
